• Southwestern Home Decorating

Southwestern decor is defined as the furnishing and decoration of a room. The definition makes the word sound colder than it is. Southwest decor should be defined as the furnishing and decoration of a room that helps create a feeling of comfort, warmth, and personality. Personally, I think of decor as a way you can express yourself in your home. The personal touches you add to a house can truly make it fell like home. Whether that means decorating with pictures of loved ones, decorative pillows, southwest rugs or even adding a fresh coat of paint.

Most people don’t realize the impact the way a home is decorated can have. What you put in your house is the first impression people can get of you and we all know how important first impressions can be. However, that impression isn’t based on how expensive or what brand something is. I believed it is based on the feelings that it gives someone when they enter your home and that feeling of being welcome can be created with decorations that are not expensive. Southwestern decor can impact and affect everyone in a different way. It is a major component of everyone’s life whether they notice it or not.  Since I have started college, I have gotten the chance to decorate my dorm room and be able to see firsthand the impact it can have.

I found it comforting knowing that I could that I could bring things with me that reminds me of home and that express what is important to me. When I decorated my dorm room it was important to me to be able to bring some of my home with me. So, I hung pictures of my closest friends, quotes that meaning to me, twinkly lights, fluffy blankets, pillow, and all in my favorite colors. Being able to decorate my own room let me find out why southwestern decor is so important to me and gave me a better understanding of the immense effect it has on everyday life. And one of the easiest ways to improve your southwestern decor and your interior design style is to try adding southwest and southwestern area rugs from Southwestern Rugs Depot to your interior design.

Throughout history, southwestern decor has been used to tell the stories that people cannot. The use of cave walls as decoration has told us more about our ancestors than any one person can. They represent the time and the culture of an era where no living person has lived. From the dawn of man to the present time, home decorating has been analyzed to help us understand the people we never got the chance to meet.

    Southwest Interior Design Essentials

Currently, there are museums dedicated to the significance of southwestern style home decor throughout history. Even museums whose’ sole focus is not on home decor, often focus some of their attention on highlighting a period of history involving their décor. In ancient Rome, the people would display their wealth with their homes as well as their lifestyle. Roman decor was very elegant and focused on patterns on tiles and the ceiling as well as have an intense amount of attention to detail.

From those two examples, we can connect that to modern times to simply say that decor is important because it shows how you feel about living in a specific space. Of course, decor does not tell everything about an individual, but it gives one a good idea about how someone feels and their status in life.

Not only is the interior decor important, but the outdoor decor is also equally as special. The decor on the outside of the house can show the functionality of the home and era in which it was built. That is the amazing thing about decor, it reflects the time period. It is like you are actually looking at history, sometimes even living in it. Victorian style homes are a perfect example of this.

Southwestern decor has mattered since the beginning of time. It is a way to be expressive and to tell a story without ever speaking. It is also a way to pass on culture without the fear of it disappearing due to lack of practice. Southwestern decor is physical and matters, not only now but in the future as well.
